Shanghai Yoen: The Xiaolongbao Spot Right Across From Us | Yokohama Chinatown
Hi everyone, it's Boss.
Today I'm going diagonally across from ROUROU. Shanghai Yoen.
Funnily enough, the places that are there every single day are the ones you never get around to writing about. Then I read a review that called it "the place people in Chinatown don't want to tell you about." Yeah, that tracks.
Warm noodles without broth, 1,200 yen
Warm noodles tossed in their house sauce.
I thought the sauce was great, and then I spotted it for sale at the front of the shop as an all-purpose sauce called "Umai-jan," 700 yen.
You can taste something you like and take the exact flavour home. The label says it works on grilled meat, salad, rice and even pasta.
A flavour you ate out following you home — that doesn't happen often.
And then, the xiaolongbao
A good xiaolongbao has thin skin and plenty of soup inside.
Here, when you lift one, the weight of the soup almost drags the bottom down.
You rest it on a spoon, break the skin, and sip carefully so none of it escapes.
I come here for those few seconds.
If you love xiaolongbao, this is your place.
