Shanghai Typhoon NHK Drama Cheongsam
ROUROU was in charge of producing the qipao (cheongsam) featured in the NHK drama "Shanghai Typhoon." Set in 1940s Shanghai, this work required the costumes to express the historical background and the personalities of the characters. We meticulously researched materials from that era in Shanghai and produced authentic custom-made cheongsams with attention to every detail of material, silhouette, and ornamentation.
The qipao (cheongsam) is a fashion born in Shanghai in the 1920s-40s. It is characterized by its stand-up collar, Chinese buttons, and a silhouette that beautifully accentuates the body. To match the world of the drama, each piece was custom-made using lustrous silk materials and intricate embroidery.
